OneShift is a skill-intensive indie puzzle-platformer built primarily around mechanics of rotating and shifting between worlds, across levels of varying difficulty composed of different types of cuboids. It was developed by Mazen Games and released on August 10, 2018.

In the game, the protagonist can freeze the world, allowing movement between different states of the environment to reach blue cubes. Everything is wrapped in a discreet, ambient soundtrack and brought to life with simple yet pleasant visuals featuring gradient backgrounds that prevent visual monotony.

Published by GrabTheGames and available for Windows, OneShift currently holds dozens of very positive reviews on Steam. It’s also worth noting that the game is not demanding in terms of hardware, which is great news for those of us running weaker PCs!

Gameplay

OneShift is structured around short levels that combine platforming with real-time puzzle solving. Its core mechanic revolves around shifting between worlds — with only one active at a time — and, in later levels, rotating them to change gravity, object placement, and available paths.

The player must collect blue cubes to complete each level, navigating environments built from various types of cuboids, each with a specific function:

Jump cuboids: launch the character upward.
Teleport cuboids: instantly move the player from one point to another.
Red cuboids: kill the player on contact.
Impulse cuboids (yellow): push the character in a specific direction.
Timed bombs: explode after a short delay and can be used for propulsion or to affect the environment.

The ability to freeze the world allows the player to plan and visualize movements between different states of the level, serving as one of the game’s main strategic tools.

Levels vary in rhythm and difficulty: some require precision and speed, while others demand observation and logical reasoning. In more advanced stages, certain interactions can become unpredictable — such as jump pads or rebound elements — adding to the challenge. Additionally, world rotation, though essential in much of the late-game content, is disabled in certain stages where the mechanic is not needed.

About the game

OneShift is a puzzle platformer where the player has the ability to freeze/unfreeze time and shift through worlds to collect blue cubes. But only one world can be active at a time. Later in the game, a world rotating mechanic is unveiled, which makes everything more complex!
