World of Warships is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online game with a naval warfare theme, created and published by the Belarusian developer Wargaming Group Limited. In the game, players take control of various warships and can engage in battles against other random players, team up for cooperative battles against AI-controlled bots, or try their hand at a challenging player versus environment (PvE) mode. Additionally, two seasonal competitive modes are available for players with advanced skills.
The game follows a “freemium” model, where players can make substantial progress without spending money. However, reaching higher levels and unlocking additional warships becomes increasingly difficult without making in-game purchases.
Initially released for Windows in 2015, World of Warships was later expanded to other platforms. The game was introduced to mobile devices with the release of World of Warships Blitz for iOS and Android in 2018. Console versions, titled World of Warships: Legends, launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2019 and were subsequently made available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in April 2021. A mobile version also entered a soft launch phase in May 2023.
