A Where’s Wally?-style puzzle game, Hidden Folks, is currently free, for Windows and Mac — 100% free to keep — as part of a limited-time Epic Store’s giveaway offer! Don’t miss out, as Hidden Folks usually costs US$14.99.
Hidden Folks is an indie casual hidden-object puzzle game featuring a monochrome visual style, like a living Where’s Wally?, with hand-drawn illustrations and unique sounds. It was developed by Adriaan de Jongh and Sylvain Tegroeg and initially released on February 15, 2017.
In the game, the goal is to find targets in large, interactive scenes with moving characters and elements, requiring attention and careful observation. You can open tents, move leaves, cut bushes, push clouds, and more. There are also hints to help you locate the targets, preventing the game from turning into a random pixel hunt.
Published by Adriaan de Jongh himself and available on Linux, Windows, macOS, iOS, tvOS, Android, and Switch, Hidden Folks was generally well-received by critics, earning nominations and some awards. Additionally, it boasts thousands of overwhelming positive reviews on Steam and holds a 4.6/5 rating on GOG, at least at the time of this publication.

Gameplay
Hidden Folks is a wimmelbilderbuch-style game in which the objective is to locate hidden characters, objects, and animals across various environments, similar to the British book series Where’s Wally?. Each scene is animated and composed of hand-drawn monochrome art, giving it the look and feel of a sketchbook brought to life.
Most elements in the environment are interactive: players can tap or click to open doors, move bushes, push clouds, or reveal hidden items and characters. This interactivity goes beyond simple observation, allowing small actions within the scene to reveal new clues or characters. There’s also replay value: elements that previously went unnoticed can be discovered later.
The game provides riddle-like clues for each target, preventing the search from becoming a random pixel hunt. There are no time limits or pressure to complete the levels, although completionists can choose to find everything. Each area has its own theme and personality, including forests, deserts, cities, secret laboratories, and music festivals, totaling 32 distinct scenes. Free updates have added extra content, such as beach and bonus levels.
Additionally, Hidden Folks stands out for its unique sound design, in which all effects are created with the developers’ mouths. These sounds not only add to the game’s playful atmosphere but also help players locate objects and characters. The title features control schemes tailored to each platform on which it is available, ensuring a consistent experience across all devices.
