Gameplay

Bus Simulator 21 takes place in Angel Shores, a newly designed, fictional modern city inspired by the San Francisco Bay Area, complete with a coastline and districts such as Chinatown. In addition to the Californian setting, the game also includes a revamped version of the Seaside Valley map from Bus Simulator 18, along with its map extension.

The game offers the most extensive vehicle roster in the series’ history (so far), featuring 30 officially licensed buses from renowned international manufacturers such as Volvo, Alexander Dennis, Scania, BYD, Grande West, and Blue Bird, alongside returning brands from previous entries, including Mercedes-Benz, Setra, IVECO BUS, and MAN. New to the series are double-decker buses, such as the officially licensed Alexander Dennis Enviro500, as well as electric buses, reflecting the future of public transportation.

In the game, the player is a bus driver in two expansive, open-world environments. Angel Shores and Seaside Valley feature diverse districts, including industrial zones, bustling urban areas, scenic countryside, and a vibrant promenade. The realism is provided by improved traffic and pedestrian AI, a dynamic day-night cycle, varying weather conditions, and lifelike driving challenges such as narrow roads, traffic jams, and roadworks.

A career mode, introduced with the Next Stop update, comnines driving and management responsibilities. Players can create detailed timetables, plan routes based on passenger demand during peak hours, and buy or sell buses to optimize their fleet. For those who prefer focusing solely on driving, management tasks can be automated.

Bus Simulator 21 supports both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes, allowing you to team up with friends to transport passengers across the maps. The game also offers customization options, from personalizing bus liveries to designing unique bus driver characters with over 15,000 combinations of clothing, skin tones, hairstyles, and more.

For added convenience, the game includes features such as fast travel to bus stops, fast-forwarding time, and the ability to directly take control of routes operated by AI drivers. There’s also support for steering wheels, gamepads, and features like Tobii Eye-Tracking and TrackIR.
