Trine Classic Collection is a bundle of action-adventure and platform-puzzle games in the style of The Lost Vikings set in a medieval fantasy world where three unlikely heroes use their unique abilities to overcome a wide variety of challenges. The collection was developed by the independent studio Frozenbyte and originally released on October 21, 2025.

The collection includes four titles — Trine Enchanted Edition, Trine 2: Complete Story, Trine 3: Artifacts of Power, and Trine 4: Definitive Edition — and also features cross-platform multiplayer, allowing players to tackle its physics-based puzzles and combat cooperatively, regardless of the platform they choose.

Published by Frozenbyte itself and currently available on Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2, the titles in the Trine franchise appear to be very well received by both critics and players overall.

Trine Enchanted Edition

Trine Enchanted Edition is a remake of the original Trine, released in 2014, which updates the game using the Trine 2 engine, bringing significant visual improvements and gameplay refinements. Trine 2: Complete Story

Trine 2: Complete Story is the definitive edition of Trine 2, consolidating all content released for the game over time. It originally appeared in 2013 as an upgrade to the PC version on Steam for players who already owned the Goblin Menace expansion, adding the Dwarven Caverns level, which had previously been exclusive to the Wii U’s Director’s Cut. The Complete Story edition later received multiplatform releases, including PlayStation 4, and became widely known through DRM-free distributions.

Retaining the series’ classic side-scrolling structure, Trine 2 further expands its use of physics-based puzzles, involving elements such as fire, water, gravity, and magic. Players can switch between the three heroes to overcome challenges in different ways, whether playing solo or in local and online cooperative mode for up to three players. Trine 3: Artifacts of Power

Originally released in 2015, Trine 3: Artifacts of Power is the third entry in the series and represents the franchise’s boldest shift by introducing fully 3D gameplay for the first time. Developed by Frozenbyte as a direct sequel to Trine 2, it preserves the medieval fantasy setting and the classic trio — Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya — now exploring three-dimensional environments that allow for new perspectives, depth, and approaches to puzzles and traversal. The story centers on the heroes’ attempt to free themselves from the influence of the Trine artifact, an effort that leads to magical consequences beyond their control.

Despite the transition to 3D, Trine 3 retains the core identity of the series through its physics-based puzzles, free character switching, and cooperative play for up to three players, both locally and online. Each hero continues to fulfill a distinct role: Amadeus manipulates objects through magic, Pontius relies on brute strength in combat, and Zoya uses agility, her bow, and grappling hook to overcome obstacles. The game also includes optional challenge content such as the Lost Pages, a level editor, and another fantasy-themed soundtrack by Ari Pulkkinen, reinforcing the fairy-tale atmosphere that defines the franchise.

Trine 4: Definitive Edition

Trine 4: Definitive Edition brings together Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince and the additional Melody of Mystery campaign, offering the most complete and refined version of the experience. Originally released in 2019, the fourth installment marks a deliberate return to the series’ roots, abandoning the three-dimensional experimentation of its predecessor and restoring 2.5D movement with a strong focus on physics-driven puzzles. The adventure once again follows Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya as they are tasked with confronting the unstable magic of Prince Selius, whose nightmares begin to manifest physically and threaten the surrounding world.

From a gameplay standpoint, Trine 4 refines the franchise’s classic mechanics by reintroducing character progression, allowing players to unlock optional abilities that expand puzzle-solving and combat possibilities. Each hero maintains a clearly defined role — magic and telekinesis, agility and rope mechanics, strength and defense — encouraging creative solutions and cooperation between up to three players, both locally and online.
