An action-RPG inspired by Minecraft, Myrne: The Quest, is currently free for Windows, Linux, and Mac—100% free to keep—in a limited-time Indiegala’s giveaway offer! Take advantage of this offer, as Myrne: The Quest is usually priced at $5.99!
Myrne: The Quest is an independent first-person action-RPG set in a medieval fantasy world inspired by Minecraft but with a more polished visual style. It was developed by Beldarak Games and initially released on May 31, 2017.
It is also the sequel to a game called Song of the Myrne: What Lies Beneath (2015), which features top-down gameplay similar to Realm of the Mad God and pixel-art graphics in a style reminiscent of Teleglitch.
Published by Beldarak Games itself and available for Windows, Linux, and Mac, Myrne: The Quest has garnered dozens of slightly positive reviews on Steam—at least as of the time of this publication.

Gameplay
As mentioned earlier, Myrne: The Quest is an action RPG set in a dark world as part of its narrative, featuring a Minecraft-like aesthetic but with a more detailed 3D environment. It offers melee and ranged combat, skill-based progression, dungeon crawling, the ability to unlock shortcuts for easier navigation, and interactive mechanics, such as cooking food to enhance its healing effects.
Players can choose from different combat styles, using cutting, blunt, or piercing weapons, each with unique characteristics:
- Piercing weapons (daggers, spears) deal less damage but have a higher chance of critical hits.
- Cutting weapons (swords) offer a balance between damage and critical hits.
- Blunt weapons (hammers, maces) have high base damage but rarely land critical hits and are particularly effective against undead enemies.
Character skills evolve through usage, including unarmed combat, dodging, and proficiency with different types of armor. Additionally, weapons have durability and can be repaired using specific hammers.
Progression involves dungeon exploration, material gathering, and a scrap system that allows players to dismantle equipment in exchange for useful items. Death in the game does not result in severe penalties beyond returning to the last checkpoint.
About the game
Myrne: The Quest is a first-person action-RPG. It’s the follow-up of Song of the Myrne: What Lies Beneath (no need to have played it to fully enjoy this one though).
The Quest is a single player game, following a story, where everything is hand-crafted (no procedural generation, just love^^).
Get back to the world of the Myrne with its silly humor and discover why the night never goes away in this new region… Or don’t, you’re just here for that magic artifact after all, no way this malediction will have anything to do with your personal quest… Erm…
Features
- This time, see everything through the eyes of your character in a fully 3D environment, you’ll finaly be able to see the Myrne in the Sky… and familiar faces too (not in the sky though).
- Build your character as you please. The game isn’t class based so you’re free to choose and mix (!) your own play styles at any time (well, maybe the final boss fight is the wrong moment to start practicing your skill with a bow). Cast fireballs while wearing an heavy plate armor, pierce enemies with your trusty lance or just stab them with a stake if that’s your thing (the weapon’s pretty weak though, I’m judging you).
- Your character evolves according to your playstyle. Using heavy armor will make you better with them; hitting broken things with a hammer will somehow improve your capacity at fixing things, while actually fixing the said broken things, sick!
- Create potions, scrap unused weapons and armors to fix your stuff, craft more arrows or just pile up a lot of scrap… why are you doing this?
- Talk with silly characters to get quests (like all adventurers, you just can’t say no, do you?). If monsters don’t kill you, the silliness and lack of basic logic of the villagers surely will.
- Explore dungeons to get better loot… to… explore more dungeons? It makes sense I guess.
- As usual with Myrne games, the OST (by Dane Ashton and Jamal Green, mostly) is available for free (even if you don’t own the game). You can find it here too!

Trivia
- Myrne: The Quest was developed by a solo creator whose main inspirations include titles like Arx Fatalis, Morrowind, and Arcanum, as well as tabletop RPGs and board games such as Descent 2nd Edition, Mistfall, and Level 7: Omega Protocol. He encourages people to play board games—just not Monopoly!
- Still regarding Beldarak, he started making games in 2014 and has already released a title on Steam with positive reviews. He has also participated in events like Ludum Dare and other game jams, creating small projects within the same Myrne universe, which he plans to keep expanding in the future.
