Guardian of Paradise

Indie/homebrew freeware where old Pokémon meets Zelda.

Guardian of Paradise is an indie action-RPG developed by E. Hajimoto and released in 2005 to Windows. It has anime-like retro style that looks like a 16-bit game which mixes Pokémon and Zelda.

The puzzles in the game are quite different from your normal Zelda-style puzzles. Sure, you’ll push a block or two, but once you meet your first spirit, that’s when the challenge really begins. The spirits each have certain abilities which help you reach new areas.

The music is also very cheerful, almost cheerful enough to make me want to dance. It goes well with the graphics who are also extremely cheerful, and the characters come to life through words and flawless animation.
