Gameplay

The Great Story of a Mighty Hero is an action RPG heavily inspired by classic hack and slash games, focusing on direct combat, simple progression, and intentionally exaggerated humor. It also offers an accessible experience, with straightforward controls, a campaign that can be completed quickly, and virtually no learning curve. That said, players used to more complex experiences like Diablo or The Witcher 3 should adjust their expectations, as The Great Story of a Mighty Hero relies on simplicity and humor as its main attractions.

Despite the lighthearted tone and comic appearance, the game does not hold back on graphic violence, featuring blood-soaked environments and enemy designs, reminiscent of the style seen in games like Castle Crashers, but with darker humor and a more grotesque visual style. The soundtrack is described as energetic and fitting for the game’s frantic pace, while the sound effects add to the impact during combat.

The combat system revolves around melee attacks with weapons like swords and axes, plus area-effect special moves capable of taking out multiple enemies at once. There are also potions with varied effects, such as explosions around the character or homing projectiles that target enemies. Movement is limited to walking (with no running or dodging mechanics), giving the gameplay a more deliberate pace.

Throughout the journey, the player progresses through several dungeon-style levels, filled with varied enemies such as skeletons, armed zombies, giant arachnids, and boss fights. Boss encounters require attention to health management, as the only way to recover HP is by consuming food, which drops from enemies or can be purchased from merchants scattered throughout the game.

Character progression allows players to choose between two main classes: Warrior or Barbarian, each with distinct combat traits, although the progression system remains fairly simple. There is a basic skill tree, allowing players to slightly customize their playstyle.
