Gameplay
Chuchel consists of 30 levels in which players control the title character as he tries to recover a cherry that is constantly being stolen. The gameplay is mostly point-and-click adventure-style, with puzzles ranging from logical solutions to more abstract challenges. However, most puzzles follow a comprehensible logic; what might initially feel like “moon logic” is often due to the strange characters and objects on screen, rather than a lack of internal logic. The game offers an in-game hint system that can be accessed at any time, making it easy to get help without needing to consult videos or online guides.
Its visual humor draws directly from classic slapstick comedy, with exaggerated falls, comical physical distortions, and deliberately absurd repetitions — in a style reminiscent of Looney Tunes, Popeye, and other animation classics. The characters’ body language is extremely expressive, which compensates for the lack of understandable dialogue, since the voices consist of gibberish and random sounds. Even so, intentions and emotions remain perfectly clear thanks to the animation and sound design.
Beyond traditional puzzle stages, Chuchel includes two distinct types of levels: minigames inspired by classic titles such as Tetris, Pac-Man, Flappy Bird, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario Bros. — and interactive scenes that function like cutscenes where players must perform simple actions to progress the story, even without any formal challenge.
In some of the minigame-style levels, the mechanics are creatively adapted: for instance, in the Tetris-inspired stage, the player must avoid being crushed by falling blocks rather than stack them — a clever twist that helps keep the gameplay fresh and entertaining.
Throughout his journey, Chuchel is accompanied by his sidekick Kekel, who occasionally helps out, though his role is more comedic than strategic. The antagonist Chrchel frequently appears to steal the cherry just after the player manages to retrieve it, creating a constant cycle of chase and chaos.
