Christmas Present Hunt

Join Annie on her Christmas adventure as she searches for hidden presents!

Created by sammyalis with RPG Maker MV and released in January 2017, Christmas Present Hunt is a short, free Windows puzzle game that takes place on a quiet holiday morning. Instead of simply handing over the gifts, the protagonist’s parents decide to hide them throughout the house and the snowy backyard, turning the holiday into a small scavenger hunt.

The game uses a simple point-and-click setup and leans heavily on exploration. Each room hides something useful — a key, a tool, or a clue — and progress comes from paying attention to small details scattered around the environment.

Visually, the game goes for a soft 16-bit 2D look, reminiscent of RPG Maker-era adventure titles such as The Witch’s House or Ao Oni, though the mood here is entirely peaceful. There are no enemies or threats, just light, cozy puzzle-solving.

About the game

Annie loves object hunts so much, her parents decided to make one as a part of her Christmas gift. The catch? Presents are the objects Annie needs to find. Christmas Present Hunt is a quick, fun, festive way to pass the time. If you enjoy wandering from room to room, searching for presents, this game is for you!

Gameplay

The goal is straightforward: locate five hidden presents and bring them back under the Christmas tree. To do that, players need to examine the house, poke around the attic, check the shed, and step outside into the snow, picking up tools that open new interactions.

Puzzles rely on item usage and simple crafting logic. For example:

  • combine bread and birdseed to lure a bird away from a key,
  • use kitchen tongs to reach something stuck in the sink,
  • dig through snow with gloves obtained from a snowman,
  • create makeshift handles for a bucket,
  • or melt ice using a cup of hot cocoa.

One of the more notable puzzles involves interpreting the order of books on a shelf to unlock a small safe. None of the challenges are difficult, but they do require a bit of observation and backtracking.

Once all five presents are recovered — found both indoors and outdoors — the game wraps up with a simple ending. Total playtime averages 25 to 30 minutes, making it a quick and pleasant little holiday diversion.
