Ancient Evil is an indie tactical RPG and puzzle game with a strong strategic component set in a dark medieval fantasy world, featuring 2D visuals that are reportedly hand-drawn. It was developed by PhoenixFire Games and released on September 11, 2021.

Although described as a tactical RPG, part of its mechanics involves real-time reactions and decision-making. The game also features achievements, progressive difficulty — with levels and enemies growing increasingly challenging — and a branching system, where the player’s choices lead to different consequences.

Ancient Evil combines tactical RPG and puzzle elements in a progression system that demands both reasoning and quick reflexes. The player explores three regions of ancient lands, delving into dungeons, facing guardians, and dealing with traps that can serve either as allies or threats.
