X-Men Arcade Remake

The unforgiving superhero brawler from 92 comes back with 30 selectable characters and CPU-controlled teammates!

ZVitor never rests. Known for his unofficial fighting games, he barely gave us time to breathe after releasing Spiderman and Venom: Maximum Carnage when he dropped another gem: a free remake of Konami’s 1992 arcade beat ’em up X-Men. Built with the Open Beats of Rage engine, X-Men Arcade Remake blends characters from various previous X-Men titles while preserving the iconic look of the original — a hallmark of the Brazilian developer.

The characters in X-Men Arcade Remake hail from different platforms: Wolverine and Cyclops come from the SNES game Mutant Apocalypse, Nightcrawler from the Sega Genesis’s Clone Wars, and Storm from the Game Boy Advance’s Reign of Apocalypse. All have been adapted to wear the uniforms from the Konami arcade classic. The game supports cooperative multiplayer for up to four players and also introduces CPU-controlled partners — a first for ZVitor’s projects — though this feature is still being refined.

You can download the game here! There’s also an Android version here! Everything is free!

More about the game

The original X-Men arcade game was one of the most visually impressive titles of its time, despite being notoriously unfair like most of its peers. In this remake, ZVitor maintains the SNES bases for most characters but adapts them to match the Konami uniforms, despite Colossus and Dazzler coming straight from the original arcade game, rounding out the diverse roster.

The developer added CPU teammates to help when it’s hard to gather four players around one computer or when online setups like Parsec aren’t an option. “This mode still needs some adjustments and will be improved in the future,” he says.

All games developed by Zvitor are distributed free of charge. If you enjoy his work and want to support him financially so he can keep making these projects, consider joining his Patreon or becoming a member on YouTube. The remake is available for Windows and Android.
