Batty (Remake)

A retro-inspired remake of a classic brick-breaker from the 80s!

Originally released by Elite Systems in 1987 for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and Commodore 64, Batty returns in the form of a brand-new, fan-made port for Windows — now available for free thanks to Space-Time Games.

Staying true to its roots, this updated version brings back the colorful pixel art visuals and fast-paced arcade gameplay of the original. The remake includes all 15 levels from the ZX Spectrum version, as well as an additional 64 levels from the expanded Commodore 64 release (1988), offering a total of 79 stages filled with arcade action. Batty also features tight controls, classic sound effects, and a nostalgic touch typical of the original classics, Breakout and Arkanoid.

Get ready to relive the challenge — or experience it for the first time — with this faithful and expanded homage to an 8-bit favorite!

Gameplay

Just like in the original, your mission is to clear the court by bouncing a ball with your paddle to destroy all the blocks on screen. Some blocks take multiple hits, others speed up the ball, and strange enemies occasionally fly across the screen, interfering with the ball’s path and dropping bombs. Luckily, they can also be taken out by a well-aimed bounce.

Power-ups drop from certain bricks and can give you special abilities, such as:

  • A larger paddle.
  • Slower ball speed.
  • Triple ball.
  • Smart bomb to clear enemies.
  • A gun to shoot blocks and creatures.
  • And even a rocket pack to skip to the next level.
