Abobo’s Big Adventure

If you grew up with an NES controller in your hands, this is your ultimate nostalgia trip!

Developed by Team Bobo (Roger Barr, Nick Pasto, and PoxPower), Abobo’s Big Adventure is a free online Flash game and also a loving tribute and a hilarious parody of classic 8-bit titles — with Double Dragon’s rage-filled Abobo front and center.

Your mission? Punch, kick, and rage your way through level after level of NES-inspired worlds to rescue Aboboy, Abobo’s kidnapped son. Each stage is a crossover homage to a different game, including clever parodies like Double Drabobo, Zeld Abobo, Mega Mabobo, and even a brutal Punch-Out!! finale.

The controls are simple — arrow keys to move, A and S to attack — but the challenge is pure old-school NES. As you pummel enemies, your rage meter fills, letting you unleash devastating screen-clearing attacks. It also has authentic 8-bit graphics, chiptune soundtrack, and pitch-perfect references to Nintendo classics.

Released in 2012 after nearly a decade in development, Abobo’s Big Adventure was widely praised as “the mother of all 8-bit homage Flash videogames” and even won Newgrounds’ Game of the Year award. In other words, this game isn’t just a joke — it’s a love letter to an entire era of gaming. It even includes achievements, proving that retro-style doesn’t mean outdated. If you grew up with an NES controller in your hands or are just curious about gaming history, this is your ultimate nostalgia trip!
