Gameplay

Outliver: Tribulation combines elements of action, combat, and puzzles with a strong influence from Nigerian mythology. In this game, you play as a soldier who finds herself in a mysterious environment filled with dark catacombs, where she must face enemies and solve puzzles to progress.

The gameplay revolves around intense combat, with the player using a variety of weapons, including a sci-fi-style pulse rifle, along with amulets that can aid in battles. The combat system bears a slight resemblance to Soulslike games, especially due to the need to dodge and strike strategically during boss fights. However, the difficulty is more accessible, making it a “light” version of this subgenre.

Exploration and puzzle-solving are also key aspects of the gameplay. To progress, you need to find colored orbs and place them in the correct locations to unlock doors and access new areas. The mechanics for locating these items are simple but effective, keeping the player immersed in the atmosphere.

A notable aspect is the dark setting, which can make it difficult to see details in the environment, though the character has night-vision goggles to deal with the lack of light. Movement and controls are limited, reflecting the technical constraints of an indie game, but they still provide a satisfying experience.

With a relatively short duration of around three to four hours, Outliver: Tribulation offers a linear and focused experience. While it may not stand out in any specific genre, its mix of combat, Nigerian mythology, and puzzle-solving can attract players looking for a unique adventure.
