Synopsis

In the kingdom of Mystralia, success requires more mind than might. You will face giant, powerful creatures, navigate treacherous terrain, solve puzzles that will challenge even the wisest sages, and overcome obstacles placed by those who do not want you to succeed.

Gameplay

Mages of Mystralia is a game inspired by The Legend of Zelda, following a similar style with a focus on exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. This action-adventure features challenges that require the use of magic and reasoning to progress. Rather than character leveling, progression seems to be tied to acquiring new spells and abilities.

Unlike games where spells are fixed, Mages of Mystralia allows players to create and customize their own magic, enabling them to develop, for example, a fireball that travels in a straight line or multiple fireballs that spread out before launching. The vast number of possible spell combinations adds replay value and allows for personalized experiences.

The controls are well implemented and responsive for the most part, though the protagonist exhibits a slight “slippery” movement effect. While a fast travel system exists, backtracking is frequent, and many players may find the constant back-and-forth traversal tiring. The game also features three difficulty levels.

About the game

In a world of magic, your mind is your greatest weapon. Learn the ways of magic and craft your own spells to battle foes, navigate treacherous landscapes, and right the wrongs of the past in the kingdom of Mystralia.

Your journey will not be easy. In Mages of Mystralia, you play as Zia, a young girl who discovers she was born with an innate sense of magic. Unfortunately, magic has been banned, so she begins training on her own to gain control over her abilities. Along the way, she meets other exiled mages, uncovers magical runes, and realizes they can be combined in millions of different ways to create entirely new spells.
