Lost in Anomaly is an independent first-person escape and psychological horror adventure structured around identifying anomalies within a closed and shadowy environment. It was developed by Aximus Games and released on December 13, 2024.

The game has similarities with Exit 8 (2023), takes place inside a mysterious building, with environments designed to convey realism and claustrophobia, and involves exploration, observation, and environmental puzzle-solving. The player begins trapped on the 9th floor and must descend progressively to reach the ground floor, following a system of anomaly detection and marking in order to advance, while avoiding hostile creatures lurking throughout the premises.

Published by Aximus Games itself and available for Windows, Lost in Anomaly holds positive reviews on Steam, at least at the time of this writing.

Synopsis

In Lost in Anomaly, you wake up on the 9th floor of an unknown building. The only way to get out is to detect and mark anomalies. One wrong move and you may be trapped forever.

Gameplay

In Lost in Anomaly, the player starts on the ninth floor of a mysterious building and must descend progressively to the ground floor using an elevator that only activates after all irregularities on each level have been correctly identified.

The core mechanic revolves around carefully observing the environment and identifying visual deviations — altered objects, misplaced elements, or subtle structural changes in the scenery. Once an anomaly is located, it must be marked. If all anomalies on a floor are correctly identified, the elevator allows progression to the next level. If any are missed or marked incorrectly, progress resets and the player returns to the starting point.

Some anomalies can only be detected using a UV flashlight, increasing the need for meticulous environmental inspection. The game emphasizes memorization of details and constant comparison between environmental elements, a defining trait of the “anomaly-hunting” subgenre, in which tension arises from observation and uncertainty over what has changed.

In addition to identifying anomalies, the game features hostile creatures that pursue the player. In these moments, the player must avoid or escape these entities while continuing exploration. The experience flirts with survival horror elements and there is no traditional combat, since the challenge lies in evasion and maintaining attention under pressure.

Each run lasts approximately 25 to 75 minutes, depending on the player’s efficiency in detecting anomalies.

About the game

In Lost in Anomaly, you wake up on the 9th floor of an unknown building. Your objective is to reach the first floor and escape. To get out, you must detect and mark anomalies. If you have marked all anomalies, the elevator will take you down to the next floor. You must carefully inspect every area and mark them properly, because if you miss any anomaly, the elevator will take you back to the 9th floor.
