Limbo (stylized as LIMBO) is a side-scrolling indie platform-puzzle game in which the player guides a nameless boy through dark and dangerous environments in search of his sister. It was developed by Playdead and originally released on July 21, 2010.

The game is presented entirely in black-and-white tones, using lighting, cinematic grain effects, and minimal ambient sounds to create a sinister, horror-like atmosphere. Its puzzles were designed with the expectation that the player would fail before figuring out the correct solution — a trial-and-death approach, as described by the developers.

Originally published by Microsoft Game Studios (and now by Playdead themselves), Limbo has been released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows, OS X, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Switch, iOS, and Android. It was critically acclaimed, won several awards, and became a commercial success. The game also boasts tens of thousands of very positive reviews on Steam, a 4.3/5 rating on GOG, and a 4.6/5 score on the Epic Store — at least at the time of this post. In 2016, Limbo received a successor, Inside, which continues with a similar style.
